D + H + B = Love

It takes the Disco-edit sensibility, references the 90s House StrictlyRhythm sound, and throws the Boogie blanket over it. That's the house sound I Love right now. 1. Yes, yes - it's not disco and it's not house, but pop of the slightly nu-disco, synthy, dubby style. There's some very familiar tunes and some you may not know. Enjoy. 1. Private “Crucify My Love”

Scandalous, Fabulous and Ravenous nu and classic disco Tantra – “Hills Of Kathmandu”. This would easily be Tantra's biggest hit. It's one of those amazing, epic tracks that just seems to go beyond classification. An Italian production it could probably be described as an excellent example of European electro-disco, even an early example of both Hi-NRG and Italo Disco. I’ve only included about half of the 16 minutes here – as it seems to work so well into… Locussolus – “I Want It” (Lindstrom & Prins Thomas Remix). This awesome remix of "I Want It goes for a sleazy disco vibe with choppy pianos and an audacious lift from Shocking Blue's "Venus" plus those catchy 'You want it? I want it… You love it ? I love it… You got it? I got it… You want it?. This is without doubt one of the best remixes of 2011 - or the Nordic pair's entire career for that matter - this has had many a sweaty dancefloor rocking. Ritchie Family – “Put Your Feet To The Beat” from 1979 album Bad Reputation which kind of gave them that. They limped along with the Village People for Can’t Stop The Music. Put your feet to the hand claps, beats, and squelchy bass breaks Sumo - “Nini” (Claude Monnet Remix). Disco. Afro. Disco. The idea of "Nini" was born back in 2004, the year when the style of afro house erupted. This second release from SUMO's 2006 album features Clarisse Muvemba, a Swedish soul queen, who also speaks and sings in Lingala (spoken in Kongo). Claude Monnet came up with a formula which demanded more vocal work from Clarisse and ended up with this spectacular, hi-nrg disco monster. Cerrone – “Paradise” (Joey Negro Dubby mix). I’ve been wanting to include the full version of either “Paradise” or “Love in C Minor” on a mix, but they both almost need to stand alone, so here is Joey Negro's dub. It’s more shimmery strings and groove. Cocktail disco baby. Alec R Costandinos “ Romeo & Juliet” (Part III). The Romeo & Juliet suite is spread over a whole album and into five parts. Yes, it is the classic story told as a disco-concept album of which there were many in the late 70s from Alec, Cerrone, Meco, and more. Part III seemed to be fit this mix best as it continues with jazzy horns and a loping, walking bassline. With enough vocals and Shakespeare to identify it, this part is all about the groove, the dancing strings and the bubbly electronica. Very classical in structure, this is indicative of the total quality of Constandinos output as himself and his Syncopated Orchestra. Space Odyssey November 2011

A short mix so you don't get too bored. 1. “Look for Love” from Cerrone’s 1979 album VII, although remixed and re-released last month, this is the original album version in all its 10 minute glory. Undeniably French and very Cerrone with the signature drum breakdown in the middle. 2. Nick Straker Band’s “Look Straight Ahead” from 1982 and mixed by Francois K, its 80s fusion-pop from London. 3. “Pick Up The Telephone” is from Manchester DJ outfit The Players Union and edits/dubs up Sherrick’s Just Call into an uplifting disco stormer. 4. “You’re the One that I Desire”. More editey goodness with a rising call and response horn and strings riff. Walking bass, female ensemble vocals – pure underground disco. I don't know who this is by - original or edit. 5. Cher "Take Me Home" – when I think of defining disco songs, this is what comes to mind - scratchy guitars, luscious sweeping strings, perfect vocals, epic production and massive dollops of drama. This Bob Esty produced song is a Horse Meat Disco staple and slays the floor every time. Check the break with the slap bass and sleazy, slidey strings. “Music, candelight…take me home”. 6. Finally an unexpected masterpiece from Andy Williams covering “Love Story” from Dr. Zhivago. Another Bob Esty produced track in the same vein as the Cher song - this is just epic.
